Commissioning of Moringa Export Zone (MEZ) and Special Export Facilitation Centre (SEFC) at Madurai is aimed at improving the Export potential of the topography. In Tamil Nadu, out of the total of 19867 Hectares of Area under Moringa cultivation, 18468 Ha of Area (93%) and 764137 Metric tonnes of Production belong to MEZ Districts with 41.4MT/Ha productivity. MEZ spans a total of 9 districts including Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Tiruppur, Thoothukudi, Ariyalur, Madurai, Cuddalore and Tirunelveli.
MEZ Objectives
- Assess the demand for Moringa and its value-added products across domestic and export markets.
- Identify opportunities to add to the land area under Moringa cultivation in the existing geographies.
- Identifying farmers and exporters.
- Register farmers/farmer producer organizations and exporters for hosting B2B interactions.
- Impart training/certification programmes on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), organic cultivation of Moringa, export protocols, best practices etc., in coordination with TNAU, TNOCD, NIFTEM- Thanjavur, FIEO, DGFT and other bodies.
- Provide hands-on training to farmers on export procedures.
- Export facilitation and training of in-charge officer in National Plant Protection Organization on various standards and requirements for exports.
The infrastructure facilities required for moringa processing and value-added products manufacturing will be created on a hub-and-spokes model with four spokes and a hub.
