Tamil Nadu Agro Industrial Corridor (TNAIC)

The State declared the creation of an Agro-Industrial Corridor in the delta districts of Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Tiruchirappalli, according to Paragraph 81 of the GoTN's 2021 Agriculture Budget.

The corridor's main goals are:

 

  • Address infrastructural deficit in the region and create sectoral linkages.
  • Development of agro-processing industries but not limited to food processing alone
  • Develop a food processing MSME ecosystem to value-add agricultural commodities
  • Focus promotion of marine products, coir, non-agri-food industries, mushroom cultivation and others for value-addition opportunities 
  • Improve the prosperity of farmers and employment opportunities of youth and women in the Cauvery Delta region

1. Agro-Industrial

The objective of this scheme is to promote Food Processing Business and Export in Delta Districts of Tamil Nadu, namely: Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur

 

The total budget outlay for the project is Rs. 2084 crore and will be implemented from the FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28.  The three major types of investments include: (a) incentives and subsidies required attract food processing business in the region; (b) capital expenditure for establishing the physical infrastructure required for the success project and (c) branding, marketing and administration expenditure for developing, promoting and running the project for 5 years and to ensure capacity building of institutions to sustain the efforts even after the expiry of the project period.

 

This transformative project to establish a sustainable ecosystem for thriving agro- and food-processing MSMEs in the Delta districts of Tamil Nadu will be led by the TNAPEx.
